Board a private boat at Assi Ghat — the southern starting point of Varanasi's ghats and the most popular place to begin a sunrise boat ride on the Ganga.
Assi Ghat sits where the Assi river meets the Ganga, at the southern end of Varanasi's main riverfront. It's the most popular boarding point for a sunrise boat ride — the morning Subah-e-Banaras programme of aarti, music and yoga takes place here every day before dawn — see our Subah-e-Banaras boat ride.
Because the ride starts at one end of the riverfront, a boat from Assi Ghat travels past every major ghat in order — Tulsi, Shivala, Kedar, Dashashwamedh and on to Manikarnika — before turning back. In the evening, the same route brings you to Dashashwamedh Ghat in time for the Ganga Aarti.
The sun rises across the river directly in front of the southern ghats.
Watch the morning aarti and music programme before you board.
Starting at the south end, you pass every main ghat in order.
Reachable by car or auto close to the ghat steps.
Every boat is private — booked only for your group. Choose the boat that fits your group size and budget; we confirm availability at Assi Ghat for your date on WhatsApp.
