Board a private boat near Manikarnika Ghat — the most sacred cremation ghat of Varanasi and the northern turning point of the classic 50 Ghats Ride.
Manikarnika Ghat is the oldest and most sacred cremation ghat in Varanasi. Hindus believe that being cremated here leads to Moksha — liberation from the cycle of rebirth — and the cremation fires are said to have burned without pause for centuries. It's the northern turning point of the standard 50 Ghats Ride from Assi Ghat.
Boarding near Manikarnika is convenient if you're staying in the old city or near Kashi Vishwanath Temple. From here, your boat can head south past Scindia, Lalita and Dashashwamedh Ghat, or north toward Panchganga and Namo Ghat. Our boatmen keep a respectful distance from the cremation area.
